KBRwyle's Engineering Business Unit from Lexington Park, MD, held its annual Employee Appreciation BBQ on June 14 that featured a cornhole tournament, a dunk tank and other events.

Employee-raised funds went towards the registration of the KBRwyle Pirates of the Patuxent Dragon Boat Team. Fifty percent of the registration funds were raised, which KBRwyle matched, getting the full registration paid.

Seventeen employees enlisted in the KBRwyle Pirates of the Patuxent crew and rowed in full pirate regalia on August 18. The KBRwyle LOGCAP IV team based near Zagan, Poland began working with a local orphanage last year when looking for ways to give back to the local community. In December, the team told the 27 children at the orphanage that they would be taking them to a local amusement park for the day in June. Over 6 months later, that day finally arrived and the children and five caregivers from the orphanage got the experience of a lifetime.

The group made the trip to Energylandia, the largest amusement park in Poland. Children and orphanage staff were extremely pleased with the KBRwyle LOGCAP IV team's generosity in sponsoring this activity.

"Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our friends with KBRwyle, our dream came true," said Natalia Swaryczewska, Association of Friends of Hansel and Gretel secretary. "This was an once-in-a-lifetime experience that the children will never forget."

"KBRwyle LOGCAP IV strives to make a positive impact on local economies where we live and work," said Mike Flanagan, Vice President Operations. "We offer employment, business opportunities and, in this case, we supported the children who need it the most."

A certificate of gratitude and a painting completed by one of the orphanage children were presented to Martin Isaac, Facilities Supervisor, showcasing the children's utmost gratitude for the trip of their dreams.
